S#11. Seon Jae’s Front Door. Night.

– Hye Won sits on a pile of egg containers. Seon Jae’s footsteps, she can hear him talking. Getting closer.

– Seon Jae turns around the corner in the hall way, stops.

Seon Jae: (sobers up. blunt) What brings you here.

Hye Won: On my way, just for a moment… Don’t ask me to come in.

Seon Jae: I can’t…when I know how busy you are.

Hye Won: You’re touchy?

Seon Jae: What did you come here in, I didn’t see your car.

Hye Won: I replaced it.  With a company car and driver.

Seon Jae, (laughs sarcastically)

Hye Won: (stands) I’d better go. Your gi-jib-eh, has a lot to do.

Seon Jae: Unless you thought it was a young boy whining so he could play with you, you can’t be that way don’t you think? Of course you have to inflate money and struggle for power. I know that’s how kids like me can benefit. But the method is so shabby. It’s cheap and unending.

Hye Won: Why is there no end? Do you want to bet?

Seon Jae: No I don’t. When it’s obvious that I’ll win.

Hye Won: Fine, well, we’ll know if we wait and see… But, the Quintet, stop with that. I purposely went and listened but it doesn’t really suit you. No matter how much I think about it, they are kids who’ve been playing music only to gain entrance to college.

Seon Jae: How can you talk like that. It doesn’t matter. Getting better little by little, I love that feeling so much, when Dvorak wrote that piece they said that he edited and rewrote it for months not to follow the trend. If one can enjoy that, that’s what one would gain.

Hye Won: All right. You’re so smart. (goes) Don’t walk me out.

Seon Jae: (pulls out his key and unlocks the front door) I won’t, when the driver’s waiting.

Hye Won: (as she leaves) Sleep well.

Seon Jae: I will!

Hye Won: You did well…

Jang Ho: Yeah… Park Da Mi, isn’t she pretty when she’s sleeping drunk?

Seon Jae: She’s always been pretty, punk.

Jang Ho: Should I tell her everything about my past, and ask her to date me?

Seon Jae: (turning on the computer at his desk) Try it… Wait for 100 days and kiss her on top of a bridge. Then she may forgive your whole past.

Joon Hyeong: (low voice) You can go now.

Jong Soo: (쭈삣[jjuppit/hesitantly]) He said that he was saying his last farewell,

Joon Hyeong: (sweeps everything off of his desk) Get out!!!

Jong Soo: Yes, (turns to leave)

Joon Hyeong: Stop them! So the kids can’t gather there. Okay?

Jong Soo: How can I block them from gathering.

Joon Hyeong: Do you want to quit also?!!!

  1. This show ended so many months ago and yet I still come here every day to see if you posted something new. When I find a post like today you make me insanely happy.
The aftermath of SLA is still lingering on…

Thank you all for your hard work!

  2. @dualnon, I love the title you came up with for this sequence of scenes. And I like how you bookended this with the header of OHW being haunted in her house by visions of SJ, and the triumphant Dvorak performance – reminding HW of what she was losing both personally and musically by contrasting her choices up till now with SJ’s choices and values. In the initial screenshot you captured how her memories of SJ in her home juxtapose his fresh initial presence with the horror of the party deception; and the video clip at the end shows her taking in the freshness and sincerity and inclusiveness of SJ’s alternate vision of music-making, in contrast to her directive several days prior, that he lose the Quintet.
When I just saw that clip again here, the Quintet’s performance is so Richter-like, performing in a practice room with a motley group of found musicians, just flinging the door open and letting people be drawn in by the music, free of all the usual pretentiousness…
